Satoshi Kon ( October 12, 1963 – August 24, 2010) is an artist, writer and filmmaker who left an indelible mark on the worlds of manga and anime. He made a critically acclaimed debut in the manga world in 1984 with the award-winning short manga Toriko. He subsequently became an assistant to Katsuhiko Otomo, the famous creator of Akira, and would eventually write scripts for Otomo. He enjoyed a creative breakthrough as anime director with the influential hit Perfect Blue and would go on to direct and write other popular and critically admired anime features like Tokyo Godfathers, Millennium Actress and Paprika.Kon passed away much too soon in 2010 at the age of 46 due to pancreatic cancer. He remains one of the most-lauded creators of Japanese animation, a director who is often mentioned in the same breath as Hayao Miyazaki and Otomo. His influence extends beyond Japan: his films have been cited as an inspiration for Hollywood hits like Black Swan and Inception. Darren Aronofsky and Guillermo Del Toro have both publicly acknowledged their admiration for Kon's work.We truly believe that Project Opus Anime can be the catalyst, taking our cue from Satoshi Kon's deep concern for his fellow artists in the anime field. He was one of the members of the Japan Animation Creators Association and the example he provided inspired us to create CryptoAnime.

Masao Maruyama (born June 19, 1941) is a Japanese anime producer and anime entrepreneur, the co-founder of Madhouse, founder/Chairman of MAPPA and founder/President of Studio M2.Maruyama is a pioneer who has spanned most of the history of the Japanese animation business since its early days, and has been involved in the forefront for over 50 years. He has collaborated with many of the biggest names in Japanese animation, discovered many talented creators, established several animation production companies, worked on dozens of series and films, planned and produced various works, and in doing so has supported the industry.Maruyama is one of the most capable and experienced producers in the history of Japanese animation, especially when it comes to finding and nurturing talents. Among the talents he discovered were Satoshi Kon, Mamoru Hosoda, and Sunao Katabuchi, also giving Masaaki Yuasa and Mitsuo Iso a chance for a directorial debut at a very early stage. In recognition for his contribution to the industry, he received the Special Award at the 7th Animation Kobe in 2002 and the Encouragement Award at the 23rd Fujimoto Award in 2003.
